Ebony is my first full face doll. I was playing around with some sketches of faces. Simple but expressive. I loved this long oval look and envisioned a long lean figure. French Classy lady drinking espresso at the local Bistro. And so the idea of Ebony was started. Of course I love the dark and mysterious as much as I love the vintage shades of tans and browns, so I am very excited to see how our Tall dark Mysterious Ebony will evolve.

I started working on her form. I wanted it to be long and slim. To match her long face. So after a few sketches I started on her torso, legs and arms.

I used a nice pale muslin for her face, body and arms. But I had found this soft black stretch material. I thought it would make a great material for long stocking on her long legs. It was to be an experimental attempt.

And so she began to take form. I wasn't sure how her black stocking would work out, but I was hoping my idea would come together.

So far so good on Ebony's stockings.
ahhhh.... I'm seeing it. I also redid/updated Ebony's face. I did color on her lips and a little rose on her cheeks. What ya think....

So I hit my first hiccup. Stuffing the lower part of Ebony's stocking legs started to be a challenge. The material is a soft stretchy material and it would easily expand beyond my desired want,... soooo I had to resort to body doll surgery.. wink
I had to make implants with the firmer body material, stuff those and insert them into her VERY thin lower limbs.
It wasn't easy, but after a lot patience and very slow manipulation, it was a successful procedure. Wah-Lah!
I

I also wanted her jointed. I really liked the way Soxy Blue was able to be moved and be posed, and wanted the same method for Ebony.
And the Hair - My favorite part. Choosing the right material, color and style.
Dark of Course
Choppy and a little on the frizz side - perfect!

A sweet little bead bracelet for her slender wrist. In Black of course.

Now the part I will admit is a challenge for me. I can envision way different than actually comes to be.....Clothes. I really wanted something artsy for Ebony. Something classy and simple. I sketched my Idea, but not sure it exactly looks like the sketch. But I was still pleased with the end result.

Some gathered materials I liked the combo look - I also had some felt. But after two attempts and total fails on making a jacket/vest, I resorted to a nice gray vest of softer material.
Here are some of the fails. Lint - Felt really produces and likes Lint. ugh... Not good for my dark Ebony. I made her a lovely turtle neck with the same material as her stockings. That I loved. Looked awesome on her. I put a couple snaps and it was so adorable. Really framed her face. But that Lint. UGH - so the felt idea was trashed. I decided on a different material for her vest
The pants were fun. I was looking to have her wear some plaid trousers. This was the only somewhat plaid I was able to acquire. I think it passes due to the scale.
And where would a sassy little Ebony be without a classy hat. I wish I had photographed my ingeniousness - LOL I slit and glued a dark felted pompom to the top of a very long pin and used that to hold her hat on as well as embellished the top of her hat. It was perfect. And very Artsy Fartsy of course.

Ooooo La La

Ebony has her own accessories. She has her handy notepad and pencil so she can take notes as creative inspirations hit. She also has her favorite tea set. A white ceramic tea pot and mug. And finally her paint pallet. Her favorite activity, painting lovely Flowers from her Tea garden.
